The DiABlu Project started out as a simple tool to detect Bluetooth devices and communicate via OSC with other applications that could not do this in a simple manner (like Pure Data, Processing, Eyesweb, Max/MSP, Flash, etc.). The main target users of this project are digital artists that wish to add mobile interaction to their pieces. However as the project evolved we realized that it made sense to create other tools that would allow OSC control over Bluetooth. So, now, the DiABlu Project is a set of tools that have in common the fact that they all have an OSC interface and communicate via Bluetooth with the device they control. So far, DiABlu is made up of two such tools: - DiABlu Scout - This is a simplified version of the former DiABlu Server. It only detects Bluetooth devices and announces that information (Id, name, device class and manufacturer) via Open Sound Control.
- DiABlu LegOSC - This tool allows controlling the Lego Mindstorms NXT robots via Open Sound Control.
However, the plan is also to have in the near future the following tools (their names might change ;): - DiABlu Mailman - The purpose of this tool will be to allow a simple way of sending and receiving files (text, image, audio, video) to and from Bluetooth devices. This will allow a greater range of interaction with digital art installations.
- DiABlu SMS2OSC - This tool will turn any ordinary cell-phone into an OSC controlled SMS Center.
DiABlu is a project conceived by Jorge Cardoso at the School of Arts of the Portuguese Catholic University and it's initial development was made by Nuno Rodrigues at the Research Center for Science and Technology in Art (CITAR). This is an Open Source Project. It's licensed under GPL 2.0. The project source is hosted on Google Code. There is also a discussion group where you can post any questions you might have.
